Special Indicators are an electronic method of highlighting a patient flag that requires special attention or consideration by health care staff ensuring safe patient/client care and staff safety.

The ability to add, remove or edit Special Indicators differs between users and is based on the user’s profile in Meditech.

Please refer to the Special Indicator Policy for more details.

From the Open Chart, there are 3 locations where users can add/edit Special Indicators:

  1. Reference Panel: Click on the Special Indicators widget

2. Summary tab widget: Some users will have a Special Indicators widget. Click on the widget name.

 3. Other Clinical tab: Click on the Special Indicators section, then click on the Edit button

All 3 methods of opening the Special indicators will display the following overlay:

  • Existing Special Indicators are listed from oldest to newest.
  • Click on the chevron to the left of the Special Indicator to open additional fields and edit if needed.
  • Click on the X to the right of the Special Indicator to delete it. Only Managers can DELETE special indicators.
  • Click on the Search box to find new Special Indicators; remember that not all users have access to edit certain Special Indicators
  • Click Save
