Allergies Tip Sheet

Entering, Confirming and Verifying allergies

Allergies will carry over between visits and will require review/verification/updates between visits. 

Entering Allergies in EMR

  1.  Go to Reference Panel in Chart and click on to open overlay
  2. If allergies are already entered on a previous visit it will display. Otherwise, it will state “No data to display”
  1. If patient doesn’t have any known allergies select

 

If unable to obtain allergies select :

 

  1. If patient has allergies type in

 

  •     Food Allergy will start with “Food” - duplicate allergies will display
  •     Environment Allergy will start with “ENV”
  •     Food and Environment allergies will display duplicated (1 communicates with medication conflicts and one with dietary conflicts) 

 

  1. Allergen overlay will display and default to a verified Status

Reaction: is a drop down field if the allergy is not found can free text reaction 

NOTE: If more than one reaction enter the most severe in 

Reaction and add remaining reactions into comments

 

  1. Once Saved will display throughout the patient's chart:

Note: Clicking on ellipses (...) will open and                                                       display full list of allergies

Confirming/Verifying Allergies in EMR

  1. Open Allergy Overlay
  2. Click  under each allergy or you can check all at once by clicking Confirm All at the top of the column
  3. Save - Note that the date updated to today’s date with your user name attached
