Manually Entering and Resulting POC Tests From Lab 

Once Expanse is open, press the “Subdivisions” button at the bottom of the screen. 

Confirm that you are set to your hospital’s Facility. If you are not, change your Facility to your hospital and change your HIM Department to your hospital’s HIM department and press OK. 

From the main menu select “Change User’s LIS Site” 

Change your LIS Lab Site to your site’s POC site. It would be your site’s 3 or 4 letter prefix plus the letters POC, then press Save. 

Open the Specimen Desktop 

Confirm that your Lab site has been changed to your hospital’s POC site by pressing the “User” button at the top right of your screen and that your Site is set to your hospital’s POC site. 

Go back to the Specimen Desktop and select “Enter/Edit Req” from the side menu. Select a test patient and fill out the requisition ordering POGLU for a POC Glucose making sure that the Priority is set to C, then press Save. See screenshot below: 

When you save, a pop up will display the specimen number. Write down the specimen number. 

Press Close and now select “Enter Results” from the side menu

Enter your Specimen number to bring up the Enter Result screen, then result the specimen and press Save, then Verify All Results and Save again. 

Now select “Inquiries” from the side menu and then “Print Specimens (Internal)” and type in your specimen number. Press OK, then OK again to bring up the Internal Inquiry report. Confirm the ordering site and performing site are your hospital’s POC site. Confirm the method and results are correct.
