Outpatient Laboratory Registration
Outreach module will no longer be available for use in the laboratory since there is another way to register outpatient lab orders in Expanse. Below is instructions for regular lab outpatient registration, as well as the outreach workaround.
Laboratory Outpatient Registration:
- First, go to Requisitions -> Requisitions Desktop. At the bottom right of the menu, select Register Patient. You will be prompted to select a facility to register the patient to, at this point you will select your site specific LRI or if you do not have a site specific LRI you will select the Shared LRI (Lab Referred In)

2. You will need to select the following categories:
Function -> Register
Registration Type -> Lab Referred In
Questionnaire -> ONE Outpatient Lab Facility
Patient Identifier -> Patient name, health card number, MRN number to do patient lookup

- Do a patient look-up. If the patient exists in the system, then select the appropriate patient or create a patient from scratch. Once the patient is selected, you will be prompted to create a new account. You will then be brought to the registration details, you may edit anything that has changed at this point but if you selected a pre-existing account, the details will appear. If you are creating a new account you will have to start from scratch and fill out all areas with an * identified.
- Go through all tabs at the top and enter in details for the registration. You will have to select the ordering provider, for testing you may select the first physician that appears at the top of the list. On the visit tab, you have to select the service date/time, the location of the outpatient registration (in this case select YYLAB), type the reason for visit (in this case you may write OTHER).
- Once all the tabs at the top are completed you can hit save; if you are missing any information there will be a pop up indicating where you are required to provide information for the visit. If all information is gathered, you will receive a pop-up of the account number and MRN number.
- You may go forward with lab ordering on the account number provided for the patient.

Outreach Registration Workaround for Expanse:
- Follow the first step instruction from above.
2. You will need to select the following categories:
Function -> Register
Registration Type -> Lab Referred In
Questionnaire -> ONE Outpatient Lab Only Client
Patient Identifier: Patient name, health card number, MRN number to do patient lookup
3. Follow steps 3-6 from above with one extra step. On the patient tab, fill out the information with the * indicating that it is required. At the bottom of the page, you will be able to locate Client; this is where you will put in the location where lab samples are being referred from (i.e from a nursing home, etc). You can do an F9 lookup to select the site that is appropriate.
