Meditech 6 Keyboard Shortcuts

 

This glossary of universal keyboard navigation includes keystrokes that duplicate button/icon functions, as well as unique shortcuts.

General Shortcuts

Use This Key

To

    <F1> or the question mark utility button   

Access Online Help for the current screen

    <Shift>+<F1>

Access Online Help for the selected field

    <F2> or the globe utility button

Access your reference links- Handout

    Print Screen or <Fn>+<Print Screen>, or        

    the printer utility button

Print the current screen (keyboard shortcut depends on device)

 <Shift>+<F12> or 

                         the padlock utility button or 

                        Suspend button in sign on banner.

Suspend the MEDITECH session

          Email utility button.

Currently not being used (Email client)

      Yield sign with exclamation mark.

Press Spacebar + <Enter> and then release

Move your focus to the next section or screen component

Use <F6> to move from the Name to EMR field

<Shift>+<F6>

Move your focus to the previous section or screen component

Move from the Location field to the EMR field

<F3>

"Find More" patient matches

Use <F3> to display additional partial name matches

<F11>

Perform a search

After typing a name, use <F11> to initiate the patient search

 

Hot Keys and Shortcuts

Hot keys and shortcuts are screen buttons you can activate with keystrokes. The difference between a hot key and a shortcut depends on its availability: 

  • Shortcuts are available any time.
  • Hot keys are available only when the screen focus is on that button region. 

 

The below screen capture close-up shows a series of hot keys. (To move the screen focus to a button region, use <F8>.) The circled letters below indicate the buttons’ keyboard equivalent, or hot key. For example, use the letter G key to jump directly to the Registration routine.

Move to the previous tab (e.g., contacts tab to demographic tab)

<F8>

Move your focus to the next screen region (e.g., move from the body of the screen to the footer buttons)

<Shift>+<F8> 

Move your focus to the previous screen region

Move directly to the body buttons

<Alt>+<M>

Move directly to the menu buttons

<Alt>+<F>

Move directly to the footer buttons

Move directly to the screen body

<Tab>

Move to the next field

<Shift>+<Tab>

Move to the previous field

<Ctrl>+<Home>

Move the green highlight bar to the top of a list

<Ctrl>+<End>

Move the green highlight bar to the end of a list

Arrows

Move the green highlight bar up, down, left, and right in the selected field or button region

<Enter>

Choose the selected button

<F12>

Save entered information

<Spacebar>

Toggle on/off the selected radio button

<F9>

Perform a lookup of pre-defined responses, when appli­cable (e.g., a query on a procedure)

<Esc>

Quit or exit a process or screen

T (+ or – if future or past date) then a space, then enter N for Now or the hour followed by P or A for PM or AM

Enter both date and time in a Date/Time field
